Today we celebrated Nicholas' first birthday with a Mickey Mouse themed cake smash! The session took place at GemGi studio in Staten Island, New York. The cake smash is one of my favorite milestones to photograph because you just never know how a kid is going to react when placed in front of a giant cake with the freedom to do what they please. Some kids love it and rip right into it, devouring piece after piece. Other kids are uninterested, scared, and confused. In the case of Nicholas he was the latter. Although he wasn't having the best time, he did enjoy the strawberries on top of the cake. He also got his first look at bubbles, which really memorized him and brought out some big smiles and laughs!
